This year’s Give Where You Live Foundation Pitch Up Geelong was another fantastic event that AWA was proud to head along to and support. It featured an inspiring group of pitchers all doing what they can to end homelessness in the Geelong Region.
The successful evening raised over $86,000 across the 3 organisations.
Wathaurong Aboriginal Cooperative raised over $26,000 to establish a supported immediate crisis and short-term housing program in their soon to be opened Youth Hub. Wathaurong Aboriginal Cooperative is a community organisation that provides culturally appropriate programs, support and services for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living within the wider Geelong, Bellarine and Colac regions.
Neami National raised over $26,000 to support their Geelong Zero initiative which aims to reduce homelessness in the Geelong region and end rough sleeping by 2025. Neami is a not-for-profit organisation providing mental health, homelessness and suicide prevention services.
Lazarus Community Centre raised $34,000 to help the organisation assist the growing number of people seeking support. The Lazarus community centre provides a safe place for people suffering from Homelessness or disadvantage, to come during the day, shower, access fresh clean clothing, a hot meal and health care services as well as access referrals to other support services.
