CEO Graeme Scannell to retire after 30 years

CEO Graeme Scannell

After 30 years as the CEO of the social enterprise AWA Alliance Bank Graeme Scannell, has announced that he will be retiring from his role at the end of June 2021.

During his time the financial services industry has seen many changes and experienced many challenges including the financial crisis of 2007 and the current Covid-19 pandemic. He also oversaw the transition from credit union improving the financial wellbeing of Alcoa employees to certified social enterprise bank employing the same ethos across the region.

“I'm very proud of the positive impact we have had on so many lives both from our financial services and our significant community and philanthropic contributions”, Graeme explained. “Although I still very much enjoy the role, the time has come to hand over the reins and for someone else to take the organisation forward into the next stage of its evolution”.

AWA Board Chair Peter Richardson confirmed that “AWA is well placed to continue to deliver for its members and their communities and will seek out the best candidate to carry on this work. Graeme’s contribution to our organisation has been outstanding over the many years he has been at the helm and we wish him well in retirement”.

AWA has been planning for Graeme’s departure over recent months and has commenced a nationwide search for a successor.
